Notes and logging
Garrison tracks that you studied separately from what you wrote. Use log entries for habits and streaks; add notes when you want fuller journaling.
Log entries
Section titled “Log entries”A log entry is a lightweight record:
- Summary — short text describing what you did (optional but helpful)
- Logged at — date and time (defaults to now; editable)
- Study link — optional link to a study (including ended studies)
Log entries do not require a note. They drive your streak — any logged study activity on a given day counts.
Quick log from the dashboard
Section titled “Quick log from the dashboard”- On the home page, choose Quick log.
- Enter a summary and optional study link.
- Save.
Use this after a sermon, a prayer time, or any Bible engagement you want to remember without opening a full study.
On mobile, Quick log includes the same optional study picker. You can also tap an unlinked recent-activity row later and choose a study.
Log entries on a study (web)
Section titled “Log entries on a study (web)”On a study detail page, the Log entries section lists activity for that study.
- Choose Add a log entry to create a new one already linked to this study.
- Or choose Attach existing log to link a standalone log (created from Quick log with no study).
- Optionally open the note editor right after you save a new entry.
Tap an existing entry to view details or create a linked note. Items already linked to another study cannot be reassigned here.
A note is rich-text journaling that saves across your devices. Notes may belong to:
- A study (general journaling about that study)
- A log entry (deeper reflection on a specific session)
- A study step (notes prompted by a step in your plan)
Note editor
Section titled “Note editor”Open a note from a study, log entry, or step to reach the editor. You can set a title and body with headings, lists, emphasis, and scripture-friendly formatting.
If you are offline, changes save locally and upload when you are back online.
General notes on a study (web)
Section titled “General notes on a study (web)”On the owner’s study detail page, the Notes section lists general notes for that study (not log-linked, not step-lane notes). Mentors do not see this list — general notes stay owner-private.
- Choose Add note to create a general note already linked to the study and open the editor.
- Or choose Attach existing note to link an unlinked journal note (not a step-lane note).
Log-linked notes stay under the log-entry detail, not in this list.
Link a note on mobile
Section titled “Link a note on mobile”New journal notes start unlinked. Open a note and choose Link to study, then pick from your cached studies. Step-lane notes cannot be attached this way. Offline, the link is stored locally and syncs when you are back online.

Step notes are part of working with your mentor; general notes stay private.
Streaks
Section titled “Streaks”The dashboard streak card reflects consecutive days with at least one log entry.

Breaking a streak is normal. Garrison does not use shaming language when habits slip.
