Motivation

Main prompt: What methods encourage Bible study? Can gamification be used in moderation? What extrinsic and intrinsic motivation applies? How are habits established and sustained?

Gamification is a short-term tactic to establish habits—not the long-term goal. Competition suits some personalities only.

  • Streak tracking
  • Points
  • Badges

Scope (decided): gamification appears in opt-in small groups only—not church-wide leaderboards and not global competition by default.

Streak rules: any study activity counts if the user creates a log entry (Domain Model).

Important: encourage users when a streak breaks—avoid shame.

  • Joy of being close to God
  • Mastery: personal growth, curiosity
  • Autonomy: maximum flexibility after initial onboarding hurdles
  • Mobile reminders support habit formation.
  • Non-AI suggestions (lookup tables + random) when user has no topic—not LLM in v1 (AI Guidelines).
